Review by: Chris Dixon (Dixon's Fishing)
For myself and my partner since having out little one it’s been difficult and honestly scary to take him out camping. We used to go all the time but with a little one it just seems harder. We decided that he was old enough at 13 months and it should be fairly easy but we needed a few items to try make it as easy as possible.
First and most important item for us was a portable High Chair.
We picked up a Oztrail Junior High Chair to help take up as little room as possible for our trip. Car packed and we set off to Pemberton, deciding to stay at a caravan park and camp rather than full on bush camping for the first trip.
Our little one needs a high chair as he won’t sit still or eat unless he is in a chair and strapped in. He is also a wriggler and tries to climb out of anything he gets sat in. if your child is a little more relaxed than ours the straps or stability might not be as big of a concern as they are for us. With the Oztrail being one of the only options available it was an easy choice to grab having owned plenty of Oztrail gear in the past.
Pros:
- Folds down small
- Has a carry case
- Easy to clean
- Sturdy and stable
- Straps and buckle is secure
Cons:
- Tray is fairly high from seat (our little one is still too little to sit in it comfortably)
- Quiet stiff to fold up (this will no doubt get easier over time)
For us it worked out great. Few small things that did bother us like the seat and tray only one set height so our little one is a bit too small to reach or sit comfortably. We sat him on a towel to boost him up and solve this. He will no doubt grow into it and will give us a longer time of being able to use the product so not really a bad point. The tray table is textured so suction plates won’t work on it, just something to think about if your child likes to flip plates like ours does. The straps you can use over the shoulders but we only used as a waist belt so the adjustability there was great. Its surprisingly stable as well which we liked and even when rocking around it didn’t look or feel like it would topple. Once folded out there is a lock to stop it folding up. While our chair is still fairly new and a little stiff to fold and unfold but having the lock is a great idea to stop it accidentally folding up.
Overall great product and couldn’t have done without it. It will be getting packed on all of our future adventures and out little ones already likes it and was climbing in and out of it all weekend long even if it wasn’t meal times.
