Here is Dan's run-down on surf sinkers. Check out the YouTube video below:

I have had a few questions regarding grapnel grim wire and weed eater sinkers. The sinkers I am going to show you today are generally designed for surf fishing or drone fishing.

Traditional users like the star sinker which are really good but if you do get a rough current they do tend to roll so a lot of people are turning to grapnel sinkers.

Grapnel grim wire sinkers are really good for rough conditions or if using bigger baits to target bigger fish. Grapnel grim wire sinkers are designed to anchor into the sand and when they are pulled on tight enough or if a fish picks them up the spikes/legs pf the sinker pop off and release from the sand or weed. They are really good for the sand, you know you are in good contact with your bait and you can really feel the bites. I wouldn't recommend using a grapnel grim wire sinker in a reefy area as you will lose them as they bite a bit too hard to the surface.

The grapnel weed eater sinkers are intended to be a hybrid between the star sinker and the grapnel grim wire sinker. They allow you to grab the reef or sand but constantly come off and on the bottom. If you are wanting to fish a really snaggy area and hold your bait in the same spot then a weed eater sinker is what you will want to be using. Weed eater sinkers are also really good for drone fishing because when you get the bites with the drone, unlike the grapnel grim wire sinkers there is less chance they will pop off and lose tension with your bait. Weed eater sinkers are always going to grab, but not grab enough where you are going to get snagged.

All these sinkers come in a range of sizes starting from about 3oz to about 9oz if you are targeting bigger fish such as mulloway or if you are further north up the coast in areas that have a lot of surges. Grapnel grim wire and weed eater sinkers do come with the feature of the added hook at the top so that when you cast long distances you can attach the hook to the rig.

Dan is displaying a 5oz Star Sinker, 3oz and 8oz Grapnel Grim Wire Sinkers as well as 5oz and 7oz Grapnel Weed Eater Sinkers.
